If you're looking for something a little different to do in Shropshire — something that leaves you with a new skill, a handmade keepsake, and a genuine sense of achievement — you've come to the right place.
At Mustard and Gray, we run a range of creative workshops from our studio in Shropshire, designed for complete beginners and curious makers alike. Whether you're planning a birthday treat, a hen party activity, or simply a day out that's a little more meaningful than a trip to the shops, our workshops offer something genuinely special.
Our workshops are rooted in traditional British craft. We specialise in lino-cut printing and lampshade making — two techniques that feel wonderfully satisfying to learn and produce beautiful results even on your first attempt.
Lino-cut printing is a form of relief printmaking with a long artistic heritage. You carve a design into a block of lino, ink it up, and press it onto paper or fabric to create a print that's entirely your own. It's meditative, creative, and endlessly rewarding.
Lampshade making is a craft that combines precision with creativity. You'll learn how to stretch and fix fabric onto a frame, creating a finished lampshade you can take home and use. It's a wonderful way to add a handmade touch to your home.
Absolutely everyone. You don't need any previous experience — our workshops are designed to be welcoming, relaxed, and fun. We take small groups so that everyone gets plenty of individual attention and support throughout the day.
Our workshops are popular with:
There's growing evidence that making things with your hands is genuinely good for your wellbeing. The focus required to carve a lino block or stretch a lampshade frame draws you into a state of calm concentration — what psychologists sometimes call a flow state. You leave feeling accomplished, relaxed, and a little more connected to the world of handmade things.
Shropshire itself is a wonderful backdrop for a creative day out. It's a county of rolling hills, market towns, and independent makers — a place where craft and community still go hand in hand. Our studio reflects that spirit.
When you arrive, you'll be welcomed with a warm drink and a chance to settle in before we get started. We'll walk you through the techniques step by step, and you'll have plenty of time to experiment and make the work your own.
By the end of the session, you'll have a finished piece to take home — whether that's a set of lino prints, a completed lampshade, or both. We also have a range of materials and tools available to purchase if you'd like to continue your making at home.
Our workshops run throughout the year, with dates added regularly. We also offer private bookings for groups — ideal if you're organising a hen party, birthday celebration, or corporate event in Shropshire and want to choose your own date.
To find out more or to book your place, visit our workshops page or get in touch directly. We'd love to have you.
After your workshop, browse our collection of British-made gifts, illustrated stationery, and handcrafted homeware — all made with the same care and attention that goes into everything we do at Mustard and Gray. It's the perfect way to round off a creative day in Shropshire.
